I will show my process by showing you how this book was created.
Creating a picture book is a collaborative process that turns a story into a visual experience. My goal is to ensure that every illustration supports the narrative, pacing, and emotional tone of the book.
I usually work through email communication, with occasional Google Meet or Zoom meetings if we need to review the project together. Other mediums of communication: Discord
I begin by carefully reading the manuscript. I highlight key moments in the story and write down visual ideas, emotions, and possible compositions that can enhance the narrative.
Next, I create a moodboard with style, color, atmosphere, and visual references. This helps define the overall look and feel of the book before the illustration stage begins.
Once the visual direction is approved, I develop the main character designs. I explore expressions, shapes, and personalities to ensure they fit the story and communicate clearly with young readers
I then create the storyboard, where I plan the layout of each page. This stage defines the composition, pacing, and how the illustrations interact with the text.
A color script is created to plan the color progression throughout the book and support the emotional atmosphere of each scene.
After the storyboard and color script are approved, I begin the final illustration stage:
clean linework, refined details and final color
The final step is designing the book cover and endpapers, ensuring they complement the story and create a strong first impression.
For a 24–32 page picture book, the typical timeline is around 3–4 months, depending on the complexity of the illustrations and the development process.
If needed, I can also provide book layout services, preparing the final pages for print or digital publication.
This includes organizing the text and illustrations within the final book format.
